Pearls are formed by shelled molluscs; mainly bi-valved oysters and mussels.
Edison pearls are nucleated pearls created by freshwater mussels. They display beautiful metallic overtones and come in a range of colors including white, cream, pink, gold, lavender, plum and dark purple. The layers of nacre on an Edison pearl are similar in thickness to the salt water south sea pearls. Only one nucleus bead is inserted into each mussel resulting in a larger size pearl.
